Balfour Beatty provides extensive building, construction, mechanical and electrical (M&E) engineering and facilities management services to retail customers in the UK, US, South-East Asia and Dubai.

Projects range from complete refurbishment works to major retail complexes, as an ongoing partner or for a specific scheme. For example, Balfour Kilpatrick has won more than 60 contracts for Marks & Spencer over five years and, in 2004, Dutco Balfour Beatty won the £400 million contract to build the Burj Mall retail development in Dubai, the world’s biggest shopping centre.

In the UK, projects include: Harvey Nichols in Edinburgh; the Houndshill Shopping Centre in Blackpool; John Lewis on Oxford Street, London; the Paradise Project in Liverpool; and Selfridges at Birmingham's Bullring shopping centre.

In the US, Heery International provides interior design and project management services to the retail industry. Balfour Beatty Construction US has completed more than 75 retail projects valued at over $400 million. These include projects for clients such as the Bank of America, for which it is providing construction services.

In South-East Asia, we have the capability to provide a range of construction services through Gammon, our joint venture business. It was the design and build contractor for IKEA's store in Shanghai, PRC, and completed the main building works for French retailer Carrefour's megastore in Onnuch, Bangkok, Thailand.
