Balfour Beatty is the world's leading fixed rail infrastructure contractor with operations in over 20 countries, delivering major multi-disciplinary projects, trackwork, electrification and power supply, signalling, specialist plant, track systems and components and maintenance services.

Through traditional contracts, alliance and partnering arrangements, we serve both public and private railways, including: high-speed passenger railways; freight and mixed traffic routes; dense commuter networks; metros and light rail, in Europe, North and South America, Asia and Australia.

In the UK, we are one of four renewals contractors for Network Rail. We are responsible for all rail renewal work for the Bakerloo, Waterloo & City and Victoria lines and for the sub-surface lines on the London Underground system.

In a joint venture, we are responsible for the new £363 million East London line project between Dalston Junction in north London and West Croydon in south London – a key part of the transport infrastructure for the 2012 London Olympics.

Balfour Beatty Rail Projects, in a joint venture with Balfour Kilpatrick, has recently completed the rail and tunnel systems for the extension of both the Heathrow Express and the Piccadilly line railways at Heathrow Terminal 5.

In continental Europe, we are a leading supplier of electrification and power supply services to Deutsche Bahn, the Italian and Swedish state railway systems and many other network owners. We are also the leading privately-owned rail infrastructure contractor in the Nordic region.

We were the general contractor, in joint venture with Amec Spie (ARGE NÜRI), for the electrical equipment for the 72km high-speed line between Nuremberg and Ingolstadt in Germany.

In Italy, we were recently awarded the contract for the new LRV (trolleybus) system connecting Pescara and Montesilvano.
