As part of a 15-year master-plan to regenerate and revitalise the town of Blackpool, the Houndshill Shopping Centre is undergoing a £33 million refurbishment and extension project
The existing Houndshill Shopping Centre is being modernised through a combination of refurbishment and new-build construction works
The project will see the shopping centre treble in size to 398,000 sq ft
An additional 800 car parking spaces are being created to accommodate the increased number of shoppers
Located adjacent to the famous Blackpool Tower and the only enclosed shopping centre in the town, it is being transformed to provide a retail experience to rival other north-west cities such as Preston and Manchester
The existing centre will remain open and trading throughout the construction works, so minimising disruption to tenants and shoppers is vital to ensure the smooth running of the project
Balfour Beatty is working hard to reduce the impact the construction works have on the local environment and community
Some of the measures being employed include: cleaning vehicles before they leave site; using road sweepers to clean the roads around the site to reduce the amount of mud and debris on local highways; and daily noise monitoring
Balfour Beatty is also helping to reduce the impact on the environment by recycling and re-using waste materials such as crushed materials from demolition works, timber, cardboard and paper used on the site
