Balfour Beatty's investment portfolio is a significant part of the Group's business. We have established a leading position in the UK private finance and PPP market and following the acquisition of Balfour Beatty Communities in 2008 we are well-positioned in the most developed PPP market in the US, military housing. This provides an excellent platform to exploit the Group's expertise by undertaking privatisation projects in other sectors.
In the Far East, Balfour Beatty is undertaking its first PPP project in Singapore through Gammon Capital and we have established investment offices in Germany to investigate European market opportunities.
At 31 December 2009, we had total committed equity and subordinated debt of £524m across 50 PPP concessions projects (31 UK, 18 US and 1 Singapore), two of which were at preferred bidder stage.
